some thing a little different

so it seems like there was a freeze in the last few weeks...hmm. that is different. from a land of a continual growing season...now back to the real world. But in reality, the farms in the hill country lost their peaches...and blackberries and probably other goodies as well. Which is too bad since the peaches from Fredricksburg are awesome. (My parents lost theirs too, but then again they live In Lubbock.)

So. Back to seasonal eating. Really! Went to the central market and viewed the loads of citrus on the shelves and the beginnings of tomatoes...the wildfowers are blooming...maybe this year we will go pick our own blueberries...the upickem strawberries have just finished up...I think we missed that but oh well...Artichokes are growing wild in the streets...and the local garden movement has sprung up and peas and asparagus and other springy foods are here.

We haven't been to the farmers market yet...but we will. We are still scrounging for a place to live, but we seem to be keeping ourselves fed. At CM, last night we picked up some fresh tabbouleh and some tamale soup, potato cakes, and brussels, organic sodas and sat out on the deck in the sun and snacked. It was quite comforting to visit CM and see all the foods laid out before...artisinal breads again, pastries, decent charcuterie, fresh produce, organic dairy, and the cheeses...oh the cheeses....and the beers...oh the beers...anyway. And then we made a late night run to Magnolia Cafe for breakfast tacos and queso and chps...real queso and real chips!

So, again, it is good to be back.
