What is it like?

To be present for the last day of a restaurant's life? I have walked away from several establishments; it has never been at the time when the doors close permanently. Even when it is what you want, I imagine there must be a sense of loss, failure, relief, regret, anger, excitement. It's time for a new chapter. Knowing the next step may not be what you want or knowing that it is absolutely what you have been heading towards and seeking. The strongest image that comes to mind is shutting down the stage lights, leaving the curtain open and illuminating that one bulb that always sits stage center when the theatre is dark. The piano can rest at last. I'll be thinking about you today chef.
