Chef Bob Long

You will be remembered by more people than you could have ever known and will be greatly missed. Your sarcastic, bitter, jerseyite cynicism never managed to completely shadow the truth of how passionate and giving you were about food. Being welcomed to your world has been one of the best moments in my life and I find myself passing along your wisdom all the time. I wish you were here to give one more piece of advice...

I searched Chef Bob's name on google and came to your website. Don't know you, but you know Chef Bob, so you must be good people. Had him for Theory in Montpelier last year, and he was my favorite Chef and a great friend and mentor. I can't believe he's gone and will miss him very much.

Yesterday was positively surreal. The school was closed and students and staff wandered through School Street, gathering in groups or talking one-on-one. School is back up and running today, but people are still in the fog-the fact that it has rained in Montpelier for 6 days only adds to the malaise. First time I met Bob Long was in 1989 when he owned his restaurant. I grew up by his restaurant and was amazed at what he brought to the culinary world. Not only was he a great chef but a great person who was loved by many and still have people asking where is Bob Long. His techniques and and creative dishes changed the culinary field during the 80's and on. His legacy still runs deep through NJ through all the students that went through his restaurant that still use everything that Bob had taught them. The culinary field may have lost an amazing chef but his style of cooking will go on for ever. Bob, thank you for the dedication and will that you achieved during this short period.

Bob Long, the man was a mentor and a friend.I knew him back in his colorado days as "the man" Bob was the most influential person in my career and in life. I was twenty something when i got to know him and his family and we worked together at 7 Lakes Lodge in Meeker Colorado for about 4 years before he moved back east."The man" taught me so much about who I am and food, we played off each other and had styles that complimented one another. I was so excited about food and life. his traditional French back ground and my Asian influence made us a culinary creative fore not to be messed with. I'll never forget the fun we had.

I am truly distressed to hear of Bob’s passing. I have always considered Bob a friend and one of the few truly gifted chef I ever helped trained, or I have ever meet. He was a joy to know.
We had not seen each other in years, not long ago, he called me from his family’s summer home at the Jersey shore, we spoke and I failed to convince him to come to dinner with his family; I am truly sadden now that he did not accept my invitation.
I have always missed his sarcastic wit in the kitchen.
To his children, if you wish to know about your Dads early years in the kitchen/cooking contact me; and please give your Mother my regards.
